The reason I’m atheist is because the purpose of organized religion is to convince people to accept a set of beliefs without evidence. It has been shown time and time again that blindly following an authority figure is never a good thing, even beyond religion. Being an atheist is no more about attacking Christianity than Christianity is about attacking atheism.
As a general thought, being someone raised in fundamentalist religion but now has a degree in biology and is at best agnostic. I’d say that it is not only prudent to be skeptical of any person who uses a religion to exert power/influence over other social groups, but that it is also the correct thing to ensure that a person or group cannot attain the means to do so. Whether that be 1979 Iran with their dissolution of the separation of church and state, or now in the US with religious based laws…
I am reading. That’s the issue. On the surface, you’re saying as a blanket statement that atheists only provoke christians because the reaction is tolerable. That is… debatable, but also you’re specifically mentioning muslims for an arbitrary reason. Then in your responses, you’re quite dismissive and defensive. So, it feels like there’s more here than just words.
I would also say that the illusion of one religious group being bashed on more than any other is partly due to just exposure, assuming you're coming at this from an American perspective then that makes sense as Christianity is very prevalent in controversy, although in Europe that is simply just not the same case. What's important is to recognize the humans involved and to both respect people's religions and protect people's rights from those who would abuse the former to attack the latter.
Follow up note x2: When most people join and serve in the military these days, their service is not dedicated to a nation specific ideal, as most militaries traditionally have, but rather to (I shit you not, google it) the Liberal International Order. Which is a set of norms for cultural democracy, which doesn’t allow for a fair democracy to also be theocratic. While liberal often means one thing in the American context, a supporter of this world order is what it means for the rest of the world.
I don’t live in the Middle East. I talk about Christianity because Christianity surrounds my every day. It’s on my money. It’s in the pledge. My family is christian. My friends parents are christian. I’m not claiming Islam is good or bad. I don’t have experience with it so I don’t talk about it. Simple as that. Christianity is the majority religion here. They’re trying to force prayer and bibles into schools. And Christianity is a huge cause for hate crimes in the U.S. so what’s your point
Prove to you it’s real…. Okay simple … God is protecting you because for 1 you haven’t got your ass beat for all this dumb shit you’re talking about … and 2 … God has provided you with enough common sense to not talk this dumb shit to a Muslim because like I said … you’ve definitely been killed
