The way I heard it described in a book was that the constant criminalization of black communities by the government eventually fostered a culture that embraced the criminality which was forced upon them.

Factors include the loss of economic vitality in inner city communities, the disproportionate arrest rates of young black men, the disproportionate federal conviction rate of black men leading to difficulty finding jobs, etc. Desperation fosters crime which can foster a culture of crime which perpetuates violence. Similar cycles have occurred in marginalized communities elsewhere, such as Arabs living in Israel.

Oh absolutely I understand life is hard, especially if you’re black but there is a way out. School, public resources. Things that don’t resort to violence or k*lling others, my cousin grew up in the h**d where ppl were dying everyday, before she moved to a nice community she told me she thought that was normal😕it’s honestly sad and causes lots of PTSD, i just rlly hope we loose this hood mentality

Oh absolutely. What also really sucks is that the glorification of violence is spread by pop culture and that makes some kids think it’s cool and want to participate, even if they aren’t in an area with that level of desperation.

And stuff like kids not valuing school or committing crimes because they think it’s cool ends up perpetuating the poverty and violence.
