I got engaged a few months ago. I can’t afford my senior year of college. I asked my fiance to go ahead and just legally marry me so I could get more fafsa money. He said he’s “not ready to get married.”
Congrats on your shut up ring and dead relationship
Or he legit just doesn’t want to get married just for fasfa and wants an actual wedding when yall graduate and can more easily afford it

Well I was suggesting we do a courthouse marriage for fafsa and we’d be like legally married but still consider each other fiancées. Then in like a year we have our actual ceremonial wedding

I can understand someone not being comfortable with that tbh. My partner and I considered it for medical insurance purposes but decided we didn’t want our literal marriage to feel transactional like that, even if it’s just legal and not “social” marriage

Yeah I get that too, but it’s like I’m literally not going to be able to finish my degree anymore because of it. Plus like it hurts hearing the man who proposed to me say he’s not ready to get married.

That’s why I said shut up ring. Not ready is different than not wanting to be that way. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt that it was just the only way he knew how to word it but proposing literally means you’re ready
