Pretty sure it’s just some old-age propaganda that was invented by the people who were against the transition from more traditional relationships in the 1900s. When it became a lot more socially acceptable to have committed, monogamous relationships with one partner rather than cheating on your wife with multiple mistresses, the average body count per person went down dramatically.
