I lowkey miss high school. Just the last two years, though. Life moves so damn fast.

Coming from a 29 yr old who has "made it" in life. If you had friends in highschool, were not stressed by grades, did well in a sport extra curricular... yeah. Does not get better than that

I was younger. I had clubs and other things I was a part of. All my friends were in one place. I didn’t have to worry about sustaining myself as an adult. No existential dread yet. Things were just simpler.

It comes with discovering the world on your own and facing reality. I wasn’t exposed to ideas of responsibility and sustainability and self-sufficiency and impermanence like I am now.

Yes and no. Discovering new things is great, but the more you discover, the more you realize the instability and insignificance of things around you. Your dreams are altered or abandoned, relationships you’ve had your whole life start to fade, you see your parents getting older, it just really sucks sometimes. Is that nihilistic? Sure. Is it realistic? Absolutely.

I see both - the beauty, and the ugly. I’ve just been seeing a lot more ugly than I used to. You can’t pretend it ain’t there.

It's not nearly as carefree or fun though. I go to work, which is work. I clean my own house, pay my own bills, etc.. We treat our children like royalty in this culture, it sets them up to be successful. It's great. But yeah.. I'm not living like royalty now. I make my own money, make my own dinner for my family, and manage my own house. Responsibility is a different, more meaningful happiness. Not the same as being a kid
