i hate religion because why is my 14 year old sister writing her confirmation speech on the fact that the idea of breaking god’s heart for being different than other people consumes her? she doesn’t need to feel guilt or shame for being herself. i’m sick

I also hate religion lol it’s just a coping mechanism to deal with the awful reality we live in. When I was 9 and already pretty sure I didn’t believe in god I told my cousin “I think gay people are normal and should be able to show their love/get married” and she started bawling because she didn’t want me to go to hell. WTF is a child doing sobbing in hysterics because of religion? Indoctrinating children with religious trauma is shameful and I’ve witnessed enough to never change that stance.

I think they’re meaning to ask *what* makes her different, not why she is

kids should not have any reason to be upset or anxious or anything negative about who they are or who other people are because of some imaginary man in the sky. it’s truly indoctrination

fr, the best part of us growing up was thankfully finding our way out. I had to explain to my grandmother that my brother (trans) didn’t tell her and never visits because of her own actions and words. And that same cousin who bawled for me ended up being Polyamorous and married to a woman and with their other partners combined they have a family of 20+ 🤣 our generation really said “yeah… fuck that”

Grooming is multifaceted and religious bullshit is absolutely grooming. It isn’t always sexual. I’m sorry you were abused, that isn’t right. Don’t try to excuse it just because it’s done by a cult, though.

It’s built into the very text of the cult. Trying to pull the “no true Scotsman” doesn’t work. It’s rotten to its core.

And here we have a perfect example of how the church groomed you. I hope you get the help you need.
