Tried using ChatGPT for the first time ever to update my LinkedIn headshot and I will never use this bullshit again. What a waste of water

ChatGPT can be super useful for some things. It doesn’t use up water btw it’s just water cooled

It's not just water cooled, a lot of it is also powered by thermo/hydroelectricity and that uses a lot of water

It's not a joke! AI uses sooo much water

Where did you read that Well they do need a lot of energy but, I’d be surprised if very much of it was hydroelectric. Or any more than idk 4 - 7 % would be pretty surprising. Why is that a waste of water though, like how does hydroelectric waste water exactly

How does hydroelectricity use up water? It’s just water flowing over a water wheel esque turbine and then using that to generate electricity. Do wind turbines use up our oxygen

It actually uses a lot of nuclear power. It’s not using up any water by using electricity any more than anything else using electricity and has actually pushed up towards greener energy generation. Just say it uses electricity atp bud

Hi buddy! So you do realize you can breathe air that touched a wind turbine but you can't drink water that's no longer a liquid, right? Like you understand that when water is used to cool things that means it turns into a gas and if you're in a place that already has a limited water supply and it doesn't rain very often, obviously the existing water no longer being water is gonna be a problem, right? And actually it is using more water by generating electricity than other things do—

—thermoelectricty also requires a lot of water for cooling. And so does nuclear. Point being it uses a lot of water even if you wanna say "it's just for cooling purposes". Like yeah. That's the whole issue

Hydro is like the least of the problem. You can't ignore that and the point is still there.

Don’t oil, gas and coal power generation kind of have the same requirements or maybe even worse. Idk man, I think it’s a silly concern. What are you gonna do, just not build things because there’s a degree of water cost. I’m sure it’s manageable

You don't need ai. AI is not an energy source. It's unnecessarily wasteful and oftentimes wrong and useless. So yeah I'm not gonna use ai when there's even times in America where people are experiencing water shortages, sorry I don't live a life where nihilism is considered a valid reason to pile onto problems unnecessarily

It’s very useful for a lot of applications, some tech companies even have like 40 % of their code being written through AI assisted means these days. Just cuz you can’t find an application in your personal life to like rewrite your linked in page or make a schedule for you or whatever doesn’t make one of the most remarkable technologies of the last decade somehow lacking in utility. That’s just silly, sorry but like nobody is going to stop using it bc it consumes some power or some water and it’

it’s misinformed to think that we should even be generating less power. We should be generating more and driving the cost of energy down as low as we can. This whole green energy thing has gone way too far. Parts of society and certain cultures are completely willing to cannibalize their civilization and move backwards and de industrialize bc they’ve been convinced that it’s somehow evil to have ever become a developed nation in the 1st place. It’s just poisonous and childish ideology that’s poi

"Nobody" and I just said I don't and I know a lot of people who also don't use it lol I don't care about what you think is silly lol I think it's silly that you're writing an essay about this. Also I didn't say we she be generating less power, you just made that up. This conversation is stupid and I'm not reading whatever else you said after that

Also, you can do plenty of useful things with it that are not limited to the LLM’s most people are familiar with. There’s machine learning algorithms that do protein folding, or drug discovery, some do optimization and logistics for trucking companies or other businesses that require that kind of thing. There’s way more positive potential there than there is cons if we’re mostly just considering ā€œwater consumption / demandā€. A lot of the positives probably even have a substantial benefit to clim

I’m trying to say I guess that, it’s really not going to make the slightest difference if a handful of people decide to boycott an LLM over something like that. The worlds gonna keep on spinning and heading down the path it’s on, a force like that is way too big for anybody to affect over some minute concern like that. You’re just gonna end up disadvantaging yourself with the boycott, it’s more of a tantrum than any real tangible real world effect

That’s difficult for me to follow, especially the 1st sentence. I didn’t make it up, it just follows naturally from someone arguing something takes up too much power… Yeah I think it’s a pretty stupid conversation too. At least we can agree on that. Whatever lol, that’s okay, you don’t need to read it, seems like just another tantrum to me though

I'm still not reading all that so you can stop typing paragraphs but I did see the notif for the last comment. I never argued anything took up too much power lol you're literally making things up and writing ESSAYS about things you imagined

This isn’t you? What are you saying then bc maybe you really didn’t say anything at all. Seems to me like you’re just trying to be deliberately elusive about what you even believe or stated here bc you’re upset with me. Uses too much water, uses too much power, in this conversation they’re one in the same concept, I don’t think you have a hard time understanding that or reading anything I say but okay, continue on with the childish tantrum about it. Really no reason to get so upset about it

A car can keep you from being homeless. An A/C unit can keep you out of the hospital in particularly hot summers. What can AI in the same vein of either of those things and which of those things use as much water as AI? The solution is not using AI and learning how to do things yourselfšŸ§ā€ā™€ļø. Like it's that straightforward lol and it's not talking to a wall because I don't give a fuck if you keep using AI lol my post is about how EYE don't use AI because I think it's stupid and wasteful
