Social media and tv has made it increasingly easier for children to start comparing themselves to others at a very young age. This changes children’s expectations of themselves in unhealthy ways. At the same time it is way more common for children to be socially isolated now. When I was young parents in my neighborhood made sure all the kids got together to play. Even tho we were all very different, we spent our childhood together and learned how to grow up with each other.

The number one thing you can do for your child is to make sure they have a social life. Get them involved in sports or some sort of community activity with other children. Do this early. Also LEAD BY EXAMPLE. A ridiculous amount of how a child learns to behave is monkey see monkey do. If they see you being confident, they will be confident too. If they see you are scared to put themselves out there they will be too.

Children will not do things on their own, parents need to play an active role in the development of their child. But the number one thing is to make sure they have a social life.
