If it’s fresh from my garden, most of the time. But the grocery store??? 100%. People grab crap all the time and it’s gross

okay so yes i wash my fruit, but ONLY right before im going to consume it. if you wash your fruit and put it in an airtight container and let it sit, and dont eat it right away, it only lasts a few days and can grow mold really quick. i learned this one summer when i was making raspberry jam with my mom. the raspberries only lasted a few days at best before they started to grow mold bc my mom washed them in water and let them sit for too long.

I purge them in vinegar, rinse with water, pat dry and place in a good seal container to maintain freshness.

Definitely if they’re from the store. If it’s something I grow it’s 50/50.

The ONLY time I’d say it’s acceptable not to is if they’re straight from your garden and it’s rained recently. Anything from the grocery store goes through at least 4-5 pairs of hands on the way to you tho, even the packaged stuff

I buy organic from farmers markets to avoid pesticides plus idk if washing it saves u from ingesting pesticides anyways gang

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #39 2h

Unless it’s greenhouse grown, it’s virtually guaranteed to have pesticides, and even then it’s 50/50 at best. Local farmers usually can’t afford greenhouses tho and face SERIOUS financial risk if they lose a harvest to a pest infestation so they’re actually much more likely to use pesticides if anything 💔 Discovered this the hard way because I have a colony of pet beetles that took a major hit because I used locally grown lettuce

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #23 2h

I’m not worried about it, I know my local growers well and have visited the farms plus washing it ain’t gonna do a whole lot. Generally I eat very clean and yet I know every time I drink water I can’t avoid microplastics. I eat vegan most days and try to buy meat from mfers that ain’t hurt they animals and yet u can never know. Frankly I think esp in America it’s largely unavoidable much less all around the world to ingest things that harm ur body. Not washing my fruit hasn’t killed me yet

I reccomend just phasing out plastic bottles and getting RO water. Idk if you’re still in Gso but both Whole Foods & Deep Roots provide it. 34 dollars on Amazon to get 4 1gal glass containers, and you refill ‘em as you please.
