Confession: It annoys me when people describe themselves as parents because they have pets, not children. Having a pet is veryyyy different from having a kid and the two shouldn’t be conflated

I understand, but many people decide to get pets before they have kids I guess to understand somewhat of what they might be getting into. Granted they most definitely are muchhhh different from each other but… the things they do have in common. You can raise them from birth as a baby, gotta feed them constantly, house them, train them, get them check ups, make sure they are healthy if you ever want them to have kids, etc soo I can somewhat see why

The closest thing I’ve heard to this is someone calling themself a “pet parent”

Yeah I’ve never heard someone seriously describe themselves as a parent when they just have a pet
