That’s an outdated theory. Most modern psychologists would argue for a much more nuanced take that doesn’t make such broad assumptions about the causes behind people’s preferences or behaviors. Not that those experiences don’t ever result certain sexual preferences or behaviors as an adult, but to say that most kinks stem from trauma is just not true and is a massive oversimplification of even the situations where it does come into play.

But even if I ignore all that and accept your statement as fact, how does that change anything? Why would that justify such harshness and unnecessary judgement? Especially given the fact that it wouldn’t even be the fault of the person who develops those kinks since according to you, they were traumatized as adolescents and had no say in the matter

Either your psych teacher is using outdated sources like Freud, or they’re just purposefully oversimplifying it. Maybe they were just teaching you the historical perspective and not the current understanding? Or maybe something else, regardless, that is not the current understanding. But again I ask, why would that change anything? Why would that make it okay to be so harsh and shitty?
