Do you plan on stopping after college? Also do you feel like it’s a good core workout with the pole?

Why are your co-workers bothered by that? Do they hate the work itself or the club environment or the customers or…?

in an ideal world, the entire adult industry would exclusively consist of people who genuinely enjoy the work they’re doing 🫡 I used to be a SWer and my experience was traumatic at times but also really fun & fulfilling in a number of ways. obviously there’s plenty to criticize within every sector of that industry, but I think people who want to see it totally abolished (rather than just reformed) are misguided / oversimplifying things

I never went to college! And it’s definitely a good core workout!

Nice! Pole dancing looks fun ngl. Oh well in that case do you ever plan on doing something else? Or is it more just a life career to you now? What got you into stripping in the first place?

I think it’ll be a life career for me! And I used to work as a barista and then this guy, the owner of the club I work at now, approached me. He said he was looking for dancers and that he thought I’d do really well there; that I had good looks and a good attitude and I’d make a lot more than what I was doing. I ended up taking him up on the offer!

They seem to hate it all. A lot of them seem to feel it’s demeaning and treat it like a chore. And I think it makes them upset to see I actually enjoy it and have fun.

Ya not an ideal world tho unfortunately. I mean drug dealers can have fun at their jobs lmao, I don’t think fun is an accurate basis for legal or moral decisions on how to structure a society at all. Stripping is irl and can have more safeguards; a lot of pornography props up human trafficking, abuse, pimp-control dynamics, mass objectification, economic exploitation, maladaptive social behavior, etc.

I definitely think it should only be done by people who enjoy it! A lot of my coworkers seem pretty miserable

What’s the most you’ve made in one shift? Also how does that work taxes wise, like would it be a 1099 or W2? I’m guessing some tips in cash go unreported

weirdly condescending reply. obviously we aren’t living in an ideal world, and I’m not sure why you jumped to the conclusion that I must be some kind of naive bimbo who believes Having Fun is the core principle a society ought to operate off of given that your familiarity with the adult industry is limited enough that you assumed “I used to be a SWer” meant my experience was strictly with online pornography, you aren’t in any position to take on this tone of attempting to “educate” me

The most I ever made in one night was about $2100. There was this big group of guys who were having some kind of celebration. It was actually really confusing because I kept trying to get clarification on what they were celebrating but they all had different crazy answers so I think they were just fucking with me and it was just a wild night out for them. And I can’t speak for everywhere, and taxes and logistics and things are well above my head in understanding, but we do 1099

sort of. I mean, part of why I took on that work was because chronic illness interferes with my ability to hold down a full-time job on someone else’s schedule, whereas SW meant being able to do things at my own pace. so my calendar wasn’t super densely-booked, but I did get to meet a whole lot of people

I have to wonder if that’s because they feel “stuck” there. either way, I have a lot of compassion for people who’ve grown disillusioned with their own experience of the erotic entertainment sector, but it’s def unfair for them to resent you just because you’re having a better time of it 😭

Yeah I try to be sympathetic, some of them just need the money. But they all kind of exclude me or say mean things because I enjoy it. I think also, because I genuinely enjoy it and have fun, I make a lot more in tips then they do without having to like, explicitly ask for me, and they definitely seem to resent that.

It wasn’t condescending at all. It was just a really matter of fact calm point of discussion and focusing on a specific part of what you said. I have no ill will toward you, I wish you well, but I’d rather not continue this line of discussion since I don’t want to deal with unstable ppl misinterpreting & distorting what I say, if you do I’ll just block you. Now that might actually read as condescending, but I have no obligation to cater to your preferences. Peace ✌️

How do you navigate discussions abt your work with friends and new people you meet? Like I’m guessing it’d be pretty odd for ppl you know to show up at work compared to when you were a barista. Or do you not rly keep boundaries like that as much?

oh damn, they even explicitly say mean shit to / about you over it?? that sucks so bad, we hate to hear it. I wish things were set up such that there was less of a competitive aspect in your line of work, that way some sense of mutual solidarity between y’all might arise in place of that atomization, but I sure as hell don’t know enough about strip clubs to have any ideas re: how that would be achieved

It’s easier with new people because they don’t have any kind of history with me. When my friends and family found out about my job, they were super upset. A lot of them through around words like “disappointed” “disgusted” etc. My parents don’t really talk to me anymore and the friends I had prior to this, kind of cut me out of their lives. It was pretty hard at the time.

right, of course, your lack of self-awareness with regards to your own tone when lecturing a stranger is actually just evidence that I’m “unstable” 🤡 don’t worry pal, I’ll save you the trouble and block you first

Yeah they’ve explicitly said mean things to me about it. About how I’m a slut or a “pick me girl”. I also wish it was less competitive and that we could just be friends. They all seem to bond over their dislike of me and the job though. So idk.

I’ve made some new friends! Not my coworkers, but others. And I guess the trade off was worth it. In one sense, if those people weren’t willing to support me, then did they ever really care about me to begin with?
