as a woman i hate her because she sexualizes herself and claims it's "for the girls" when it's very clearly not. if it was she'd prolly be a lesbian like chappell roan. and i believe her stereotype is harmful to young women because while i think women should be comfortable in their sexuality and express it however, she should be cognizant of the fact she is a major celebrity who has a lot of privileges normal people don't, and encouraging young women to do this is harmful to them
She’s definitely not the pioneer for such sentiments but I mean, the rhetoric obviously doesn’t apply to all men. It’s a little strange for anyone to take such a comment personally unless they feel it applies to them. Like, would a gay man feel the same? I think there’s more than what is on the surface.
I think the critical thinking isn’t really on her. She herself is a young woman. If women (or men) take her words at face value, isn’t that their problem? I’m not saying people shouldn’t be offended. Anyone can be offended by anything but to put all the work and blame on her is shortsighted.
I think your concerns are super valid. Sabrina is in a position to inspire and influence a lot of people where a regular woman on the street is not and thus, what she does can be put under scrutiny. However, you recognize that “women should be comfortable with their sexuality” and thus, Sabrina being comfortable in hers is a good thing. You’re saying that she should be comfortable only up to the point where you’re comfortable. Which is fine for you, but I hope you recognize that.
that is not at all what i said. she should be comfortable to the point where she is not causing societal harm. i dont give a shit what she does but i do give a shit about what her image encourages to young women, especially in this day and age where we have a literal rapist as president
I mean I feel like you do give a shit about what she does. That part is obvious. You would prefer she expressed her sexuality in a different way because you see her current expression as harmful to society as a whole. I’m sure she doesn’t see it that way, but that’s just a guess based on the hostility of your reaction vs her doing what she did. I think your ire is misplaced but it’s okay for you to feel how you do.
I don’t think it’s exactly fair to call her stupid. It’s not just one person that builds an image like that. I’m sure she has a whole team of people refining and orchestrating how the public sees her. It’s unfortunate you’d wish anything upon another woman but good will. I can see this is a troubling topic for you. I hope she does change the album cover just for your sake and other women like you.
I will concede that certain people will definitely be influenced by this. It’s for sure dangerous for those people. The issue wouldn’t exist if everyone could think for themselves, but you just made me realize, she’s one person. She has a whole record label. Why is the criticism so acutely directed at her personally? How many horror stories have we heard about record labels creating images that sell that don’t necessarily reflect the artist completely?
I mean… Should she just not exist? The people that pay her have a say in how she’s presented. I could go tell my boss right now that he can kiss my ass and I can wear jeans whenever I like. Doesn’t mean I’ll keep my job. That’s being hyperbolic though. What I mean is that just because you see her doesn’t mean everything she produces is all her idea. Which is really what it feels like people are thinking. Why isn’t the thought, “Wow, her record label, friends, society failed her.”
