friendly reminder that if the mere sight of a fat person makes you uncomfortable, you are struggling with serious mental illness no disrespect! I’m just worried about your health ❤️‍🩹

What’s the mental illness?

An unhealthy ego and most likely a warped perception of one’s and others bodies

as a symptom it can be attributed to a few different mental health issues. to name just a few: fatphobia, susceptibility to groupthink, pathological difficulty with minding one’s own business, the delusion that other people’s bodies are obligated to appeal to you aesthetically, terminal-stage pissbaby disorder…

The most psych major response ever: pathological difficulty with minding one’s own business lmfaoooo

that’s the one that sticks out to you as dubious, really? moreso than “terminal-stage pissbaby disorder”?

even jf they are it’s really not my business. i don’t throw a fit and start lecturing old people about their health if they have a walker or a cane. people have poor health and sometimes it their fault and sometimes it’s bad luck and either way it’s not my business unless they specifically ask me for advice and i’m sure as shit not gonna start tweaking over a strangers health

I don’t lecture them, I just find them off putting and hard to look at depending on the severity which is what OP was talking about

facts! earlier I had considered responding to #3 with something along the lines of “so do you usually freak out when you see a stranger with a disability, or is body size the only marker of imperfect health that makes you that uncomfortable to see?” but then I realized I lacked the morale to deal with having to explain to a stranger why it’s bad to have a judgmental reaction to disabled people

like, it’s indescribably demoralizing to try and navigate conversations like that when I already deal with ableism on a daily basis in real life lol. so I legit appreciate that you dropped in with something chill & sensible to say

in all seriousness: if someone is out there in public just going about their day and you “find them hard to look at” based on the size and/or shape of their body, then that is you having an unreasonably unpleasant reaction. it’s not a rational or morally neutral response, and it would behoove you on multiple levels to actively interrogate why it is that you feel that way

There was a post on here a while back where someone was saying that the hate ALL fat people no matter what And when I called them a miserable and hateful individual, they had the AUDACITY to reply with “you don’t know me; I’m actually really kind and loving irl” LIKE WOMAN, DO YOU NOT SEE THE FUCKING IRONY OF CALLING YOURSELF KIND AND LOVING WHEN YOU HATE PEOPLE FOR JUST EATING ABOVE THEIR CALORIE MAINTENANCE NUMBER FOR A NUMBER OF DAYS???

always with the “I’m actually a really decent person btw!” deflection While they’re demonstrating the opposite, good lord incidentally, this very post was inspired by someone else posting about how uncomfortable it makes them to see fat people existing in public, and of course the post in question included the line “I’m always respectful”

I think this was the exact post I was talking about!!! Omg I was the person absolutely fucking dogging them in the replies of the quote post I had on it

ah, the one I’m thinking of was from today, but I don’t doubt that nearly-identical posts are probably made in here multiple times per week. I report fatphobic nonsense whenever I see it bc this app explicitly states that body-shaming is against TOS, but it seems like hardly anyone else takes this shit seriously enough to actually get the hateful posts taken down

straightup cannot scroll Confessions for more than 5 minutes without encountering an explicitly racist post that’s been up for 7 hours without being reported
