I guess most people have an easier time putting their faith in someone who speaks with total confidence, but idk, when someone consistently comes across as overly secure in their own knowledge & awareness, I gradually lose respect for their perspective

I think the biggest thing is that you can be secure of your own knowledge and aware awareness, but you need to be open and willing to be wrong. And often that isn’t the case.

tbc I think everyone’s got a range of subjects they’re earnestly well-versed in and that’s great. the thing that bothers me is people who seem to only Rarely consider the potential that anyone else they speak to might be better-informed on a given subject than they are

there’s also a question of unconscious bigotry imo because a ton of people are less likely to consider saying “yeah, you’re right actually, my bad” if the person they’re talking to is a woman, or black, or disabled or mentally ill etc where they’re not even deliberately factoring that in, just operating off of trained societal biases
