My dad just inherited like 20+ acres of land in southern Oregon in the middle of nowhere. My great great grandfather bought it and it's been passed down since. And my dad is thinking of selling it. OF COURSE my generation is the one which gets fucked over

Breaks my heart that more and more small land owners are allowing themselves to be bought out by development/investment companies that have the power to outbid individual buyers. Unless our parents pass down land, our generation is going to be the most land-poor generation in American history

This is oddly specific…

I don't even care that the land is in the middle of nowhere, in fact I like it like that (my dad grew up in a small town he hates and doesn't understand why I like the idea of rural living). But in a time when nothing is priced reasonably, it would be such a freaking blessing to inherit land that I can build a house on

If it makes you feel better, both sides of my family went from hundreds of acres of land along a river and a lake where they did logging now down to almost none 🙃

and no the money did not trickle down with the selling of assets across generations. they sold it all and we don’t even get to be rich off it 😔

Holy shit. I think I know who you are. I meant think is putting it lightly since there aren’t many other people I know who’s dad is trying to sell the land he inherited AND lives in oregon
