Some of y’all need to realize the literacy crisis in America isn’t your opportunity to flex that you’re an intellectual. It shouldn’t be: “Omg I can’t believe people are so stupid?!” It should be: “Holy shit. We need to improve public education.”

Alabama’s recent efforts have sent their elementary school reading and math scores from near the lowest to the top half. Things are being done. Don’t use the disadvantaged to excuse the willingly ignorant.

“Y’all need to recognize the literacy crisis.” Yeah, we have. That’s why Alabama is making an effort to change that. It’s crazy how much different communities get hate for their education systems when they’re actively trying to improve them. All while I go to the same college as people that don’t know “your” vs “you’re.” It’s two very different scenarios.

That’s great amazing for Alabama! Excellent progress. Genuinely. My post didn’t imply any negativity toward any specific region. I said, “Y’all need to recognize the literacy crisis IN AMERICA…” as in all of America. I’m confused because I’m reading your response as defensive.

Well, it’s primarily because my area has been insulted, denigrated, and put down constantly despite efforts to improve education. All while people going top universities are using the worst grammar around with no accountability.

Lmao literally if kids can do it adults can too, the difference is desire to learn; seems like people don’t like learning at all

Like I said, my post was never about a specific region of the US. I was speaking generally about public education in the country as a whole. Once again, tremendous work being done in Alabama!

I’m begging you to dig a little deeper. I see your point, but in the realm of sociopolitical issues, there are intersecting schools of thought that should be considered when discussing the systems in place that reward the undeserving and “punish” those without sufficient resources.
