knowing that you don’t want to bring another life into this world is selfless. if you know that you don’t want them for whatever reason, it’s good that you won’t have them. kids aren’t for everyone and that’s okay. good on you for not letting him get to you.

Enforcing the idea that having children is morally correct leads to people having children despite unstable financial and environmental conditions. Those who are in current unstable financial and environmental conditions were more likely to be raised in similar conditions themselves and experience chronic stress. This means they are more likely to abuse their children. It also means that both parent and child are more likely be homeless, commit crime, or commit sucide.

i’m guessing that this is probably the first time they talked about it. they don’t agree and so OP broke up up with him. they aren’t dating anymore. not everyone talks about kids and stuff like that on the first date. it comes out over time

Nah that’s something that should be talked within the first date. It’s part of knowing if you two are compatible. Of course things change though and people might change their stance about wanting or not wanting kids overtime

He wants kids. If he stays with her he doesn’t get them and he gets resentment. She doesn’t want kids. Either they don’t have them and he gets resentment or she relents and gets resentment. Of course, one of them could switch their mindset and they’d be happy. But it’s a red flag for both because it’s the one thing that you can’t compromise on. Either someone will have resentment for not getting their choice or they break up.

also, we already have enough innovators on the planet right now. unfortunately, most of them are trapped in horrible living conditions that prevents them from using their power and intellect for good. think of how many einsteins and madame curies have died an are dying in poverty right now? we need to focus on improving the quality of life for all humans in the world before introducing more to needless suffering.

Having kids is inherently selfish?? How about nurturing, providing for, putting another being’s needs above your own? I can understand how some aspects of wanting children can be seen as selfish and in certain contexts in can be irrational but other than that saying wanting kids is selfish is crazy to me
