Immediately thought of Switzerland. Have low unemployment, high life expectancy, and high GDP per capita

upvote 11 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 20h

I think it’s really hard for people who haven’t travelled a lot to understand how other countries operate. Like Italy is only 2x the size of Florida. The population of America is about 35x the amount of Switzerland the policies that work for that population won’t work for America. There’s no harm in wanting for better as long as it’s realistic for the country you are in!

you must be miserable. people who were born in the US are genuinely so lucky and blessed. so it’s a great accomplishment for those who become citizens of our country. you must be entitled and have seen nothing other than everything being handed to you.

Our country is being plagued by AI data centers, our government is corrupted by oligarchs, fascists, pedos, narcissists, and felons. Our education system is terrible. Our housing market is terrible and the age of getting your first house is getting higher and higher. Unemployment is at an all time high. Companies have no care for their employees and want to suck their employees dry. Birth rates are declining. Literacy rates are declining. I can go on.

yet our country is developed and we have more resources than most countries have. we can get gov. assistance while other countries are struggling in poverty. as much negatives that there are, we really are lucky to have what we have.

upvote 20 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #4 20h

it doesn’t, but all i’m saying is that there are countries that are worse off than us. so to drag down someone becoming a citizen of our country because of what negatives there are is sad. you have no idea where they come from and if they come from a 3rd world country, they are more than EXCITED to become a citizen of the united states.

upvote 11 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 20h

every country has their negatives. and yes there are struggles in the US but that doesn’t mean that just because someone becomes a citizen that you have to say your sorry. they worked hard to become a citizen and if they thought it was so terrible here they wouldn’t have even thought to become a citizen here. so be proud of them for putting in the effort to become a citizen of an amazing country.

Hey good for them for becoming a citizen. I’m just being realistic. America has been circling the drain in recent years. We’ve become a laughing stock and have ruined good relationships with other nations because of a pedo felon in charge. This country is not moving in the right direction

Yeah you can say whatever you want with some very limited exceptions. Like you can’t say your life is not worth living. You can’t yell fire in a crowded theater. You can’t say slanderous things, like how your neighbor is gay and his lavender marriage with his wife is a big smoke screen when that’s patently false. But that’s pretty much the extent of it.

upvote 4 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 18h

the first amendment protects you against the government, it doesnt mean no other person is allowed to criticize what you say. when did this person even say they think you shouldn't be allowed to comment? the point is that it's rude (and very american) to bring up your issues with this country on a post of someone celebrating being a citizen. if for no other reason, because you have no idea what they might have gone thru in their original country that made the US seem like a better option

I do agree there is a time in place but also I think it is fair to warn people about what they’re getting into. I would’ve mentioned that you still need to be kind of careful w ice not really caring if you are a citizen or not and just being careful out there- but also it is fair to mention all the things that are wrong with this country and try to make it better that’s real patriotism! Also, you cannot say other countries have it worse w/out acknowledging how American imperialism exploited them

“ there are countries that are worse off” is not only a terrible argument because it doesn’t mean we can’t continue to improve and we need to acknowledge all the people that fought and died for us to have these rights NOT JUST us soldiers but protesters. Armed resistance has been the biggest impact in getting us our rights on our home terf. We also need to acknowledge why these other countries are the way that they are- like the Middle East is like that because of colonization and imperialism

well lemme put it this way, if your friend excitedly announced that she was pregnant on facebook, and you were someone who never wanted kids, so you commented smth like "omg i'm so sorry i hope you can get an abortion" that would be considered very rude, even if it was a joke. that's basically what you did here, since OP is obviously excited abt this news. it's anonymous so less deep in a lot of ways but i hope you can see my point here right?

Go look at some of their policies. Wanna know how they have those numbers? They keep the people who lower them out. Harsh, but effective. One of the hardest visas to obtain in the world for a reason. Their citizens even voted on a policy to fine people for wearing certain religious headwear in public. When someone protested the fine in court, their fine got increased. They have no chill on immigration, so they have perfect numbers for their actual citizens with things like GDP and employment

So tell me again where you have more freedoms, the US, or Europe? Having freedoms comes at the cost that not everyone lives equally. You have the freedom to change your situation. The problem in the US rn is that it’s tougher than ever to do that. In other places, that opportunity doesn’t even exist. You cannot practice your chosen religion. You cannot criticize your government at all. The list goes on. Pick your poison. You either get freedom with all the shittiness, or you live as you’re told

The most ignorant people in the world are often the ones who criticize the US the most on social media with dumb popularized statements. Absolutely 0 research done into what the rest of the world is like. “Ugh I want to leave”, “it’s a third world country in disguise”, “I didn’t ask to be born here 😔” then go try living in the countries people immigrate here from and then look me in my eyes and tell me you want to stay there. Genuinely pmo

Probably couldn’t even point out the countries they list as better or any from current events on a map yet they’re talking about countries as if they even know what they view as “random” places like Azerbaijan exist. Learn the countries of the world, memorize the map, learn the conflict regions of the world, THEN we’ll talk.
