It’s an extremely broad field so I get what you mean about teaching geology, but that applies to any field then. Geology has its subcategories that are taught instead (Mineralogy, hydrogeology, volcanology, seismology, some GIS, etc.) and from there you can hone in on what you want to from there

Most professors who teach within geology already have experience in the field is the thing. “Teaching geology” is something people who usually during research or after retirement from the field
