raised pentecostal and i’m a lesbian. i ended up abandoning my faith because i realized i couldn’t support a god willing to let billions go to hell for something they can’t control. even outside of myself, it’s a cruel punishment. gay people are some of the kindest people i’ve met and i realized how unfair it is. if he is real, i don’t like him either way. i will accept hell before a god who only accepts us conditionally.

Wow you worded that so beautifully I’m so glad you were able to come out of it and stay true to yourself. The biggest thing holding me back aside from the religious guilt of it all is my family and friends not loving me anymore bc of it. I spent a long time hiding myself from ppl and some of my family/friends r homophobic bc of religion. Being in a sorority definitely doesn’t help either haha. Thank you for giving me more perspective on this, I’m proud of you.

i grew up latina and family is a very important thing in my culture as is religion. it was difficult to accept at first but i realized i never actually have to tell them i’m gay. i figured they can find out on their own and decide on how to react. ultimately, family isn’t everything. you will find people in your life who will love you because of your queerness and not just despite it. i think that’s more important and decided i don’t want to live handcuffed to a family that can’t see that
