I literally just now came to that realization because I was all thinking about how cute it was that my grandma called me “her little monkey” and then I was like, “Lol, my classmates even called me tha-wait a damn minute…”

Similar experience as a white guy, people always called me an ape or monkey in 1st-4th grade because I acted like one: always climbing shit, doing bear crawls at full ape sprint speed, etc. I don’t think racism gets turned on until at least like 3rd grade, I’m sure you did some monkey shit at school at some point because you liked them at that age and it just stuck
