The whole trope of eldest daughters becoming hyper independent in adulthood is so true also. I’ve grown up practically alone and taking care of myself especially mentally and now I find it extremely difficult to ask for help or advice when I really need it. And all my siblings. Especially my brother are being raised very differently and my whole family uses me to set a good example. People tend call me emotionally Intelligent, stable, and mature. Ig that’s the reward of growing up a certain way

Girls do mature faster though, and their brain develops faster! Now does this take away from the post, absolutely not!

If you’re triggered by this post stop and think why before leaving angry comments. Just because you haven’t experienced the double standard doesn’t mean that it isn’t there.

“Maturing” faster is just a survival response.

The moron who posted this doesn’t understand basic human biology. Girls literally do mature both physically and mentally faster than boys.

Even if girls “get punished earlier,” we have data that they get off lighter for the same offences from childhood until their deathbeds.

My older sister has always been the needy one and she still loves at home. I'm better most independent and shell be there till she's 30 prolly, not always the case.

Oh it happens. Not denying the mistreatment of boys, but contrary to popular belief girls are often conditioned to suppress their own feelings to prioritize the needs of others

Idk which crimes you’re looking at but they get heavier sentences for defending themselves against men. One girl was tried as an ADULT for killing her assailant and is still in prison

just to add to this, a lot of psychologists are actually starting to think girls mature faster due to the stress in which society puts on them in order to: https://www.usnews.com/news/health-care-news/articles/2018-06-15/study-more-childhood-stress-leads-to-increase-in-brain-maturation

My older brother is like this. My mom goes too easy on him now cuz he’ll get loud and act restarted meanwhile I was supposed to be the youngest, coasting and relaxing, enjoying my 20s but I’m the only one with multiple brain cells I’m so tired having a special needs sibling that’s also older is so unfair

As a boy with an older sister. I see it man, I’ve definitely been coddled a lot more than her, and she basically helped take care of me. I’m genuinely thankful for her, but I wish she didn’t have to do it, and could live her own life

I know you think you’re so special and this is only a problem for men, but girls and women are constantly mocked for crying too. Crying is seen as feminine, so girls are expected to do it, but that doesn’t mean it’s accepted. They are mocked FOR being ‘feminine’.

Not only that, but there’s been outdated statistics that are maliciously cited by feminist groups that say women get longer sentences for killing their partners, but those disparities disappeared a long time ago

I’m not triggered but I don’t like when people spread misinformation. Men and boys get worse punishments than women throughout their entire lifetimes. For every Brock Turner who gets away with something heinous with a slap on the wrist, there are 5 women who get away with terrible crimes that you just don’t hear about

i take your “basic human biology” and raise you advanced human psychology– the brain develops in response to its surroundings and is shaped by genetics, behavior, and environment, all of which affect each other. there’s no way to say their early maturation isn’t because of sociocultural effects and the way girls are treated in adolescence

i was trying to just find a quick reference for people to easily digest and further research themselves if they wanted to due to shorter attention spans in thus day but if you’re going to be a academic critic and say what sources count and what don’t, which professors will also use news articles and basic journalism resources for the same purpose of digestible chunks of knowledge since journalists do tend to do their research here’s actual studies about how trauma/stress affects young brains :)
