I wonder how many suicides could be prevented just by giving the person enough money to live comfortably

I live comfortably and still want to kms. I think money isn’t a factor for ppl who are too stuck in the past or the what could have been. But it could definitely save a lot of lives for sure. Then there’s the Matthew Perry’s and Mac millers or w/e rich af and life is just empty

I want to kms but if I had money to fix what makes me want to kms the most I could fix the other stuff myself. Depression is a bitch to overcome and money CAN buy partial happiness.

There’s a (in opinion) very interesting thread of research in medical anthropology about how a lot of mental health issues stem from societal issues. Now obviously there are biological reasons behind a lot of mental illnesses; however, states also tend to push biologically-focused narratives about why mental illness exists in order to shift the blame from governmental/societal failures…cont

Definitely. A lot of my ideation is fueled by thoughts like “oh well it’s ok if I become homeless/have a serious medical issue ill just km$ so I won’t suffer longer from being poor”

This was especially visible during the communist regimes in Eastern Europe, for example, where propaganda/the state pushes the narrative that folks who were expressing dissatisfaction with the government/were homeless/were depressed/etc were suffering from an immutable biological condition. (This being part of the reason why/how the state used asylums so much. They excused forceable commitment by saying that those being committed were biologically disabled and could not be in normal society)
