Honestly, I think all drivers should have to take an exam every few years. Too many careless drivers.

100% agree. I’m an airline pilot and at age 65 you’re forced to retire, one of the few rules from the government that actually makes sense

Make it 55. My bf’s uncle has a head injury that makes him lose his memory he sometimes doesn’t even know where he’s going and he doesn’t follow road rules. How he got it? Funny story. He was driving drunk and he crashed into a horse stall and the horse kicked the frontal lobe area of his head.

i don’t want people who are a danger to themselves and others on the road. idk why you’re bringing up other people’s responsibility to take care of them. they can call an uber or take the bus if they don’t have anyone in their life to chauffeur them about

You know damn well that they can’t use phone very well and most people don’t have access to public transportation

if they can’t use a phone they shouldn’t be operating a 2 ton machine going 60+ mph

And you shouldn’t be abandoning ppl like that

no but their old brains turn to mush and that alone gives the same effect as being drunk

You didn’t. I did. Weird that you would take offense to this. It’s almost like you know that the reason why most old people still drive is because their families don’t let them live with them

ya and that stuff is outlawed, what’s your point? i never claimed elderly drivers were the cause of all/most accidents. i said they should be required to take yearly exams after turning 65, since mental decline is a thing and it’s dangerous to all drivers. god forbid they be responsible

That if families would stop abandoning old people the wouldn’t have to drive to get food

you keep acting like i wanna abandon old people lol. i just don’t want them on the road if they can’t pass a driving test. not that deep. it would make the roads safer. you wanna make sure they’re not abandoned? that’s awesome more power to you. but they still shouldn’t be on the road if they’re a danger

My point is, why tf would we require them take yearly exams when there is no sign that the “mental decline” you’re bitching about is causing issues? Do we have yearly exams for the assholes that are actually causing issues in the road? I literally posted the screenshot and you’re still acting slow💀

What does his head injury have to do with him being 55? Are we actually being deadass?💀

Well they aren’t going to starve to death so yeah, they actually do have to be out on the road

uber, doordash, buses, friends giving a ride/dropping off food, walking, biking, call a pizza place, meals on wheels, grocery delivery. there’s soooo many alternatives to driving lol

Anonymous replying to -> OP 4d

Most people don’t have access to buses, old people can’t walk long distances, old people can’t bike, most people can’t afford DoorDash two meals a day, most people can’t afford to deliver a pizza twice a day, meals on wheels doesn’t deliver food to every old persons house twice a day

That’s why families are meant to help out but they don’t, so they do have to drive. If you can’t accept the risk of driving, which you know is dangerous even on an empty road, then YOU should DoorDash food every day

even if i conceded to the other points, you can literally get groceries delivered for free from walmart. most towns in america have a walmart. they have options lol. and i’m not saying take their license away for everyone over 65, i’m saying test them to make sure they’re still competent. you gotta take a test at 16, but why is that they only time you have to prove your ability?

This just happened at our local grocery store (Oliver’s Santa Rosa, CA), an older lady decided she could drive just fine with a boot cast on her foot. 😥 Hit several people, one employee had his legs trapped underneath the wheels. Apparently she mixed up the break and gas pedal.

As an insurance agent there’s a reason once ppl hit a certain again their rates go back up bc they are now considered a “high risk” driver again. Just like young drivers. So yeah, once they hit a certain age they should be required to retake their drivers test. I mostly say this for THEIR safety bc you get more fragile when you’re old so they’re more likely to get hurt if in an accident.
