People shaming people on social media for not posting about the LA deportations look so insane rn. Just because someone isn’t participating in performative activism doesn’t mean they don’t care or are a terrible person.

Exactly. Every comment like that is another lost vote in 2028. I don’t understand how everyone said “we need to change and learn from the 2024 election” and then proceeded to do the exact same behavior that caused them to lose it

Like congrats, the performative activism to make yourself feel good is going to have the exact opposite effect people delude themselves into thinking it’ll have

Not to mention that performative activism makes me actively NOT want to post anything on the subject because I don’t respect the type of manipulation and coercion shaming people into posting something is. Which in turn still leaves my decisions being based off of SOMEONE ELSE and not myself. Ultimately I posted something in support once realizing this but I really had to turn down the noise to center back with what I actually want to do

Yeah plus people will post things that are genuinely just blatant misinformation. People let themselves get emotionally manipulated by headlines without actually looking into the story. I don’t remember what the exact number was, but a study was done that shows over 90% of people don’t read past headlines, and even fewer make it past the first 3 sentences. I’m pretty sure the amount that make it past the first 3 sentences was literally less than 1%

Not to mention nowadays 50%+ of internet traffic is fabricated and distributed by bot accounts to stir things up, so every time you see an angry political post or comment on Twitter or Instagram, keep in mind that it’s more likely to be a bot than a real human

That’s really interesting info and definitely supports exactly why people shouldn’t be using social media to base their whether someone truly cares about a cause. Every day since the protests I see atleast two people shaming the ones who haven’t spoken yet and I cringe so hard
