Bc it’s the first and oldest drug. So many cultures have important connections, practices, and ceremonies connected to alcohol. It was how we stayed alive before understanding water disinfection and waterborne illnesses. And when we tried to ban in, things got worse. Prohibition killed thousands of people from moonshine, hooch, bathtub gin, etc, and it’s why we still have organized crime in the US. It’s so ingrained in human history and culture it’s impossible to separate it from society now
