With how long of a prison time is given to sex offenders, it’s incredibly vital for the crime to be prosecuted with as much certainty as possible. You could be putting away an actual piece of shit, or an innocent guy who now has to do someone else’s time.

It may not be the same level of the act itself, but you cannot say it doesn’t deserve punishment. People get branded a r*pist for years sometimes as a trial goes on. Even afterwards there’s always that doubt over them.

If ‘maybe men should stop putting themselves in situations where they could be falsely accused’ is acceptable, then by the same logic ‘maybe women should stop putting themselves in situations where they could be assaulted’ would also be acceptable—which most people recognize as victim-blaming. In both cases, the blame belongs to the person who commits the wrongful act, not the victim.

2% of rape allegations are false. Not rape convictions. JUST allegations (most cases not making it to court) we have MUCH BIGGER FISH TO FRY THAT FALSE allegations.
