Weight is the absolute stupidest way to gage a woman’s beauty— 200lbs at 5’7 can look beautiful. I’m 4’11 and anything below 140lbs I feel like I’m *too* skinny even tho BMI says less than 126lbs. It’s all in how it’s carried

It’s so annoying. Literally talked to a guy “I wouldn’t date a girl over 160” showed him a picture of my sister (180lbs, 5’5). “Oooh she’s hot”

That’s incredible. I keep telling people that that number isn’t even something most people can reasonably imagine, and as a guy, I certainly can’t on a woman lmao

Yes. In women you have to account for body shape, chest, hips, etc

I know plenty of women who care. Both because men use it to degrade women based on weight alone and doctors use BMI to dismiss many conditions as “weight” issues

If doctors say that you are overweight, you should listen to them. And if ppl you are dating don’t want to date you due to weight it’s because you look big, not because a number turned them off

Lmao obviously you don’t know what it’s like to carry a higher weight in a good way. Doctors look at the numbers. Arbitrary BMI statistics that have been said to be outdated for years but are still for some reason used as a standard— it’s stupid.

I do research in lipid metabolism, and in my opinion it makes sense for BMI to still be use to an extent. But most doctors today I think would agree that BMI is flawed. And also like carrying excess fat on your body isn’t good. This also isn’t totally indicated by BMI btw, I’m in a healthy BMI range and I carry a bit of excess fat, but still being overweight puts you at higher risk for a lot of things both in the present and in the long run

Because you aren’t a body builder bro. You aren’t mostly muscle and your skeletal weight can be measured mostly by height. Most of everyone’s weight is fat, so when ur heavier than most people at ur height, it’s because you’re fat

Now in terms of attractiveness, that’s up to personal discretion. There’s nothing wrong with liking someone who is overweight, nobody should be ashamed of it, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with liking a specific body type. Just don’t talk about it honestly

I believe that body fat percentage measurements would be a more accurate representation of a woman’s body. I have a large chest- wide birthing hips. Both naturally. Using actual measurements are much more accurate when it comes to female bodies. BMI only takes height and weight into consideration— and weight itself can vary so much from day to day.

You have a large cuza fat and body fat measurments are subjective, usually gathered from data such as bmi. It’s impossible to get an accurate body fat % on a living person

Anonymous replying to -> OP 11w

The reason why I think BMI is worthwhile is only as a preliminary measurement / warning as a risk factor. If someone is overweight due to muscle or other factors often a doctor can tell, but most people have high BMI due to excess body fact, and if they are concern they will give recommendations accordingly. That’s not to say there aren’t doctors who do different, ofc there are they are not a monolith

BMI is much simpler than TRULY ACCURATE body fat measurement

That being said nobody should be made to hate themselves or their body due to their weight. Really, rather than focusing on weight or form, as a society we should focus on simply encouraging healthy habits. Everyone will benefit, people will lose weight or gain weight or stay the same depending on who they are, and exercise offers benefits in confidence and whatnot

Fat ≠ large breasts just as skinny ≠ small breast. Hip bone placement is also typically genetic and the army- for instance- uses BMI as a preliminary but also measure waist circumference- I believe the also measure your neck circumference as well but I’m not sure- to get a more accurate estimate of body fat percentage measurements

BMI is simpler but incredibly inaccurate. It would be extremely difficult for me to get down to 120lbs and I look healthy at my current weight— which by BMI standards is overweight verging on obese. My youngest sister is 5’7 and only 130lbs ish and is an absolute bean pole but hits her BMI sweet spot

We don’t know how she eats, and either way her being however much overweight is more likely better than an eating disorder. There are lots of measures of health, and while fat is one of them it is not the only and not always the most important
