I hate how "hanging out with my friends" is not a respectable hobby. That's literally what I'm passionate about. I literally do that like 4-5 times a week but for some reason it counts more that someone does pottery once every 2 months?

I get what you mean, but I think when people ask about hobbies, they usually mean something you actively engage in for yourself, whether that’s developing a skill, exploring an interest, or simply getting to know yourself outside of your relationships with other people. Hanging out with friends can absolutely be something you love doing, but I think that’s why people tend to categorize it more as socializing than a hobby

I would argue building new friendships and maintaining strong relationships is like among the most important skills you can have in life and it is an interest to me. I already know myself outside of relationships with other people

I don’t disagree with that at all. Building and maintaining relationships absolutely takes skill, and I wasn’t implying you don’t know yourself outside of them. I was just explaining why people generally categorize hanging out with friends as socializing rather than a hobby. Something can be important to you, require skill, and still not conventionally fall under the category of a hobby
