Kids don’t need a phone until they are 13 at least… maybe 16 a lot of this content isn’t child friendly.

I’d say we can give them phones but the phones can’t do anything more complicated than play Snake

My mom gave my 11 year old brother a phone cuz he walks to and from school by himself, its a cheap phone and she got like parental locks on it so like she can see that he downloaded tiktok and then block it on his phone

Kids need a phone as soon as they enter middleschool especially if they have to walk/ take a bus home

Ehh I say 12 but again it’s on parents to safe guard phones with parental blockers. And teaching them online safety, kids are going to sneak around but have open communication with them and not everything they see is the truth.

My family was always saying I’d only get a phone when I was 13 and then mom gave me a flip phone at 13 and said I’d only get a real phone if I could keep it safe for a year. I was kind of annoyed by this but did appreciate having a phone and nowadays I’m glad she did that

13+ for sure with exceptions for more restricted phones for kids who walk to school or whatever. I think we need more child friendly websites again like animal jam and club penguin.

As a kid who grew up with a trac phone??? Yes. No ipads, phones, tablets or computer unattended and they will have restrictions

i think it depends on the situation; like other people said, if ur a bus rider or ride ur bike or walk home they should have one. but for reason other than safety i think ages 14-16 is fine but it should have parental controls set up. i got an ipad first and had 16/18+ apps restricted, app approval requests, safari and other search engines were blocked, i had kids youtube, when i got older i was allowed to have them but privacy tabs/erasing search was restricted, explicit songs i couldn’t even

^^ have we forgotten about flip phones and the prepaid ones at Walmart??? Way cheaper, durable enough for a kid, and no risk of social media use on it

Prepaid plans are expensive, my younger sister just got her first phone, it was cheaper to add to our family Verizon plan than those prepaid ones at Walmart

even look up, so pretty much anything not appropriate, with cuss words, or an app that gave me access to use my free will, oh and no social media. i got tiktok in 7th grade, snap in 9th, insta in 11th. i had to ask my dad before watch any show or movie so he could approve it, if i was watching something and he didn’t know id get in trouble depending on his opinion on it.

Until we can force companies to make their apps and sites to be not addictive (or switch to a different system entirely), I agree

it's more than addiction. it's the predatory nature of all people on the internet and the companies running them. social media websites should not be used for profit. having these sites for profit creates breeding grounds for red pill nazi propaganda and for pedophiles to be safe. social media addiction is not real, delete the app. that's all it takes. it's the fact that the internet creates safe haven spaces for the worst people ever to express their horrible nazi opinions

Didn’t meta or some other tech company admit to intentionally making their website addictive?
