that’s true if we’re talking about black people’s attitudes towards white people, but lateral racism exists like, while obviously Asian, Latino and Indigenous American people don’t experience antiblackness, they do still each face their own unique forms of systemic race-based oppression. it’s still possible for marginalized demographics to perpetuate racism against one another
black people are capable of harboring biases against white people, but since white people don’t experience systemic racism, that bias is an oppressed demographic reacting to the lived experience of oppression even the most fervently antiracist white person is still part of a demographic that has the upper hand in terms of power relations. so it waters down the word to describe a black person’s bias against white people as “racism” when that’s also the word we use for racialized oppression
like I get what you’re saying in the sense that it’s possible to *act* on that bias at an individual level in a manner that’s still harmful. but that’s just a problem with the limitations of language. it’s ultimately kind of insulting to pretend that individual bias against an oppressor should be referred to with the same term as the one that describes state-sanctioned racialized violence
You’re still in the same logic of which you think I’m speaking from the perspective of a white person. I’m not. I have had no hand historically in oppressing black people within this country, nor has my race. Why then, is my experience of facing said racism and discrimination invalid because it happens on an individual basis?
if you were approaching this conversation from a place of earnest interest in interpersonal ethics then you wouldn’t have felt the need to pull such an obviously inapplicable “oh yeah? well how come-“ type of retort. so you’ve made it obvious by now that your post was just a result of your own racial grievances
I assumed you were likely a white person because otherwise I’m not sure why you would be so invested in the idea that interpersonal bias against white people is a big deal interpersonal racism against people who Aren’t an oppressor demographic is still a Component of systemic racism. so if you aren’t white, interpersonal racism against you is objectively racism, full-stop. again, I did not at any point suggest that interpersonal racism against marginalized races was “invalid”
I’m sorry, I made a post about the fact that most people that I had spoken to, that happened to be black were indignant of the fact that they thought they simply couldn’t be racist. The post is about my own racial grievances, because that’s the experience I’ve faced. You come in and tell me that’s not possible on the same level because I might be of the oppressor class, that I’m not systematically oppressed. That it’s insulting to even call it racism because it’s not on a large enough scale.
nope, already made it very clear that the only form of race-based interpersonal bias which is too inconsequential to be labeled as “racism” is the bias against white people, and that this is because in terms of racialized power relations, white people are the oppressor. you’re dealing with a literacy issue at this point
and like you said, I wasn’t even initially responding to you in particular… your post was singling out black people, and I responded to a black person just to say that it’s possible for black people to be racist against people who Aren’t white. that’s the position you felt the need to argue with. so yeah, why this whole situation?
The position I chose to argue is your opinion that any form of racism can become inconsequential because of the exclusionary race of the victim. That singles out the pattern of incidence as a necessary evil and is quite antithetical to any intersectional conversation you can even begin to have.
are you kidding? why the hell would I want to DM with you? after you resorted to “uhhh I didn’t get the notification. the comment didn’t show up”, about the same comment you were responding to, rather than having the maturity to just say “my bad” when I pointed out to you that no, I was explicitly not reducing this convo to “black vs white”…? not a chance
what you’re saying is that you replied to the comment “power dynamics” by boiling the whole conversation down to exclusively black peoples and white people, right before you asked why *I* was acting like this was only a conversation about white people and black people. your commitment to playing obtuse and making nonsensical excuses is genuinely shocking at this point
there’s also the fact that you had already replied to them by the time you replied to my comment. it could not be any more apparent that you did in fact see my comment. I’m just curious how much further you’ll talk yourself in circles to avoid saying “okay, I lied because I was embarrassed”
But I didn’t? I’d replied to the previous one with him replying and saying “why” and then the second one talking about black people, because that’s what the post and what he was saying. I’m not lying because that’s what happened. Whether or not you choose to believe it, is entirely up to you and honestly, none of my business.
no, “doesn’t change that anyone can be racist” was already a visible reply when I entered the thread there had also been no mention of separating interpersonal racism from systemic racism before I commented, but then when you replied to me, you continued to differentiate between the two as I had done
There had been on a lower thread, and again. I’m not disagreeing with you in its entirety. The first top thread hadn’t been replied to at that point. I don’t disagree with all your points, in fact quite the opposite. But my reply was to carl at that point. If you thought otherwise and it was because of me, well I’m sorry.
like I said, at this point I’m just curious to see how much further you’ll bullshit yourself in circles to cushion your own ego. most people disengage once they’re caught in an obvious lie because they realize that stacking more lies on top makes them look bad! so it’s kind of entertaining
see if you’d just said “when I read your first reply, I thought Carl was the one saying it” right off the bat instead of jumping all the way to “I didn’t see that comment at all (even though I replied to it directly and was clearly responding to its contents)” then that would’ve at least been understandable and believable but now it’s a little too late to attempt that pivot when you’ve dug your heels in so deep on committing to this lie
