The women here actually made me realize how wrong I was in thinking. I think this weekend you all should go out to the frat at your school with the worst reputation of sexual assault and if something happens to you I am deeply sorry and I hope they go to jail. There was nothing that could’ve been done. Sorry for my thinking that women were responsible for their own lives. I forgot women have zero agency over their own lives. Much love and take care🥰
Did I ever say that or did I say there are bad people in the world and you should take steps to ensure your own safety? The funny thing is I almost guarantee you understand the concept of risk reduction in every other situation apart from assault. Would you say I’m a victim blamer if I said hey dumbass you should lock your front door so it’s not as easy to rob you. I mean surely you lock your car and house doors right? Telling someone to not put themselves in bad situations isn’t victim blaming
Telling someone to live in reality isn’t victim blaming. Nobody is not holding the assaulter accountable. They are saying you should take steps to not be an easy victim. Not everyone is a good person so why don’t you accept reality and try to protect yourself instead of thinking it’s victim blaming
Nobody’s saying you should. But if your first response to a woman getting assaulted is “well you shouldn’t have done this” instead of supporting her and blaming her attacker (because it wouldn’t have happened without a violent man existing) you’re just victim blaming and misogynistic
Okay but that takes me right to the main point bad people do exist and trust me if I could I would put a huge amount of people in prison because we don’t give harsh enough sentences. Simply saying there are bad people and you have to be cautious of them isn’t misogynistic you’re actually braindead if you think that and need to get off of tiktok. Turn your brain on for half a second and stop parroting other people and think for yourself. There is no society where bad people just don’t exist
Bad and violent people will always exist which is why we need to blame them for attacks happening in the first place. A woman wearing a revealing outfit doesn’t mean she should be blamed for being raped or something as plenty of women who are fully covered, as well as children in childish outfits, get raped all the time. Instead of blaming the victim for not taking more precautions, support her and blame her attacker, as it wouldn’t have happened without the attacker being a violent person
no i want you to recognize that classifying people as “easy” victims is literally victim blaming. it puts the accountability of not being raped/assaulted/whatever onto the victim and not the actual criminal who did it. it doesn’t matter what someone does or doesn’t do. the fault is never with them, it’s with the person who hurt them
You know what fuck it you’re right. Nobody should ever take steps to prevent harm from coming to them. We should just always point our fingers at the bad guy and say bad guy is bad and then that be the end of it. You’re so right I can’t believe how wrong I was. For now on I will never take steps to protect myself. I’m going to walk around in baggy clothes with headphones on wearing expensive watches in the worst part of town. If I get robbed well I couldn’t have tried to prevent it
you can have full sympathy for all victims and want maximal punishment for the perpetrators while also promoting safety precautions. these are not mutually exclusive. and no it is not victim blaming to recognize that some situations and behaviors are more risky than others. this is such a stupid pointless argument holy shit
babies get raped. elderly women get raped. corpses get raped. women in hijabs get raped. by telling the victims to just "do better" is completely ignoring the perpetrators. nobody's arguing that we shouldn't be smart. the original OP is just asking why men have so much more smoke for the victims than the actual abusers... and you proved her right.
did i ever say that??? we are talking about PRE-cautions here. i am not talking about telling someone who has been victimized that they brought it upon themself. i am talking about taking preventative action. we do this in literally every aspect of life. if someone says “be sure to lock your door at night” nobody comes and accuses them of implicitly defending burglary, because that is obviously not what is going on.
yeah and the whole convo started bc someone pointed out no matter what women do, or what precautions we take, men still predominantly blame us and say we should have been more cautious/done better/whatever. no one is saying women shouldn’t be smart but whyyyyyy is there so much focus on the victim and not the actions of the perpetrator? also sorry i wasn’t even talking to you earlier, i was talking about the fact he described it as being an easy victim. if you can’t see how that’s victim blaming
Rapists are bad but I think women should take control over their own lives and make themselves less prone to being a victim. Rapists are bad but it is common sense to actually avoid potentially bad situations. Rapists are bad so I’m going to start saying every sentence with rapists are bad. Rapists are bad but if I don’t constantly state that rapists are bad you think I support rapists. Rapists are bad I hope this makes sense
a lot of men genuinely do blame victims, and many unintentionally say blunt stuff about these situations while probably not truly blaming them. and that is bad. but as a society we do treat rape as one of the worst crimes imaginable close to or on par with murder. and if they are reported and there is evidence, rapists get many years in prison and then often are killed by other prisoners for said crime. it’s far from perfect but generally rapists are not getting a free pass legally or socially.
…i literally said you don’t support rapists. you can think rape is bad and still victim blame. your problem is that you’re STILL putting the responsibility to not get raped on women instead of focusing that energy on stopping people from raping. for the millionth time no one is saying that women shouldn’t be smart, but you saw a post talking about how men victim blame and then went on to talk about ‘easy victims’ and throw a fit when people corrected you. the whole concept of
Rapists are bad but most people don’t feel like they need to repeat that over and over. Rapists are bad but if my house got robbed because an unlocked door I wouldn’t say you think burglars are good if you didnt preface the statement of “lock your doors” with burglars are bad. Rapists are bad I hope this helps!
Rapists are bad so can you please give me your 10 step plan to prevent any rapists from ever existing since you think it is possible to live in a word where rape will never ever happen again. Ps: Rapists are bad but this is why people say women act like children. Rapists are bad but you actually think it is possible to live in a crime free society
actually tho if we wanted to cut down like 95% of sex crimes all men should be put in jail. obviously it wouldn’t completely eliminate it but it would significant reduce the risk for women. for men who aren’t rapists in prison with them they should just be careful and if they do get raped ig they should have been smarter and made better choices
Rapists are bad but I would say you said something along the lines of we shouldn’t tell people to defend themselves we should stop rapists from raping. Rapists are bad so I interpreted that as you thinking that we can prevent all rapes from ever happening again. Rapists are bad so I further interpreted it as you having a plan to stop rape
my idea actually was for men to stop victim blaming. you asked me how i planned to stop rape, and this was my solution 🤷♀️ maybe if you put more effort into figuring that out yourself instead of arguing with women you wouldn’t be lumped in with rapists. either way tho just be smart and be aware of the risks and you’ll be okay
Well unfortunately telling women to try to make themselves less likely to be a victim is extremely misogynistic (a classic behavior of people that hate women is telling them to be careful) and supporting rapists. This only applies in cases of sexual assault of course. If you tell them to wear non slip shoes after moping the floor at work well then it’s just common sense
Well yes naturally. It’s cause they are simple creatures (specifically the upset ones not all women) and don’t seem to grasp that saying there is more work than just to the men is actually blaming the women. I was a victim of certain abuses when I was a child but I also recognize that I could have not been in those situations in the first place, moreover I definitely knew better… a parent always chirps safety
This is a minute fraction of the time I’ve existed. And you are saying that men (me and the above) have spent more time blaming”” victims than we have addressing cruel men. The original intent of the arguments (on the male side) is that it’s multifaceted. Somehow you have managed to infer the entirety of my character (in regard to my opinion on rape) from a few words. I hope this is clear on why I disagree.
Also to be clear I was implying that I have certainly spent much more time going after abusers than the abused. It’s actually crazy to me that you just leapt to the conclusion that I victim blame by agreeing that people will persecute you AS I HAVE JUST BEEN for thinking that mayhaps there is preventative measures.
the rapists are the ones who decided to act and rape. they actively did an action, which was rape. whereas the victims did not actively choose to get raped. therefore we should focus our energy on the rapists i cant believe you're actually arguing against everybody saying yall should give more of our energy to the people who actually committed a crime. wow. this is astounding
Susan has a friend bob. Bob rapes Susan. Bob asks Susan to come over. Bob rapes Susan. Bob asks Susan to come over. Bob rapes Susan. How many times can Susan be raped until I can say Susan stop going to Bob. I can certainly beat Bob half to death and report him too, if Susan doesn’t persecute do you want me to murder Bob? This is the situation in which I say women need to wisen up.
Not my character but my time and energy. You act as if I have spent all the time in my life telling women don’t dress scant!! But I haven’t. That is what I’m saying I’m agreeing that women get mad when you point out that sometimes the victim needs to stop endangering themselves. See the Susan and Bob message
