Our country was founded as secular because Christians had spent the last 400 years of European history murdering each other for being the slightly wrong kind of Christian

Thomas Jefferson made a bible with all the magic stuff removed. He was a Deist. They were enlightenment era liberals who recognized that religion needed to be out of government to stop people from murdering each other over religion.
