I'm not on my phone like that, and I just just can't text like that. This seems to make people insanely upset. So I've just decided to have no friends, I'm over making everyone insanely upset bc I'm not glued to my phone texting every day.

Like no matter what I do or how much I show up for someone irl, I'm painted as some heartless monster bc I'm not texting them 24/7. I can't stand making ppl upset, THAT makes ppl MORE THAN upset, so yeah I'm fine chilling by myself. Bc I, as a person, simply can't text like that.

I also have ADHD and used to do this. I’d get overwhelmed by the amount of texts, distracted, and kinda ghost if a convo was too uncomfortable. Then I’d be so embarrassed I left them on read for like a month I’d just never text again. I lost some really good friends that way. Honestly if I could go back I’d apologized to all of them but I don’t have their contacts anymore. I’m better now, I reply almost instantly with my new group but it took a lot of work/meds to get to this point.

How would you respond to “but it’s not that hard to send a text every morning/evening 🤨” ?

Unless that person is my significant other who I'm in love with, I'd mentally be like 'Bruhhh oh my fucking godddd this person is insufferable and needs to go to therapy to work on their need for constant dopamine and their anxious attachment style' and then I'd actually text 'Actually, for me, it is. I have crippling ADHD and my brain is a staticky whirlwind. Remembering to send consistent texts is actually harder for me/more effortful than running a half-marathon. On par with a whole marathon.

I love you dude, but I'm a fucking shitty texter. I can compromise with you to make sure to text at least once or twice per day, bc you're important to me bro ❤️'

If it IS my significant other who I love, I'd explain that I love them, why texting is so hard for me, and that I'll try my hardest to send a text when I wake up and a goodnight text But if they're really still on me about it all the time ig I'd dump them bc they clearly don't actually like/love me as a person and only love the instant gratification/ego-inflation I provide

Compromising is important. I just think it’s an interesting new standard for relationships. Like if it was 1976 and we didn’t have smartphones would the dynamic still be there

It's an ANNOYING new standard and this tech is def up there as a top cause of the general loneliness epidemic/ppl choosing not to date/get married/etc We weren't meant to be in contact with eachother 24/7. It adds impossible standards and pressures, and has turned most people into anxiously attached individuals I think about a world without smartphones constantly 😭
