I both agree and disagree. Historically sex and kink has been a big part of the queer community but also I understand not everyone is comfortable seeing that out in public. My solution would be to have family friendly day events and then more sexy night events but that’s just my two cents
We have a parade, not to celebrate “sexual preference,” but to symbolically commemorate and honor the riots that happened that made it’s so we’re allowed to exist and take up space today. Just like fireworks on 4th of July, to symbolize the bombs and cannons of the revolutionary war. We do this to honor those who came before us, and to push on for those who come after us.
I was referencing a video i just watched of an old lesbian telling the story of how she got arrested for holding hands with a girl in Illinois in the 80s/90s. But if u are actually interested I'd recommend reading the History.com article on the 1969 Stonewall Riot (people also got arrested for crossdressing in the gay bar, police took people in the restroom and checked their genitals). If we're looking for a recent instance in the US, search 2016 lesbians arrested for kissing in Hawaii
