Probably just Kanye because of how he added autotune and started the “trap” revolution. Old artists are more innovative than new artists, but i think people get innovation and quality mixed up. Sometimes following a formula with expensive technology works, and for modern pop it does (some of the time)
to your point i think older artists were more willing to take risks with their music as opposed to nowadays where it’s easier to follow a formula that you know will work, especially since social media has become heavily music-based over the years. the music industry is very different than it was back then and even a decade ago.
This is factually true, there’s no denying that music is more formulaic today and it can be frustrating for people who dont like the formula. However people tend to view modern artists for their antics (aka Kanye) and view old artists for their music. MJ slept with under 18s but he isnt held to the standard that Drake is
