Literally just look at nyc right now, or for something that’s been more long term: the Alaskan permanent fund dividend program. Literally an economic socialist policy that is so widely successful, Alaskans will literally vote out anyone who even insinuates anything that would negatively impact it
It’s kinda just that you’re missing the point of socialism. I agree that oligarchies, state run or otherwise, ruin things for everyone. However, socialism isn’t a transfer of oligarchies from the private sector to the state. In the united states, our oligarchy is already involved extensively in the process of government. Instead, socialism (roughly) aims to ensure the laborer is fairly compensated for their work by collectivizing the instruments of their labor (the means of production).
You know what, that’s understandable. But at the same time, socialism has had great success. It’s lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty in China alone. In addition, if it were to happen in the United States, it would be even more successful because it wouldn’t have an outside power sanctioning it and intervening in it (the US usually fills this role)
I’d guess that it’d look a bit different in America than in other places. Our culture of individual freedom could complement collective ownership really well. However, the red scare has done a lot of damage to the reputation of socialism in the west. That being said, most people are actually very in favor of at least some socialist policies; they are more scared of the word than the thing itself
But i won’t bother you for too long. If you want to look more into it, you could read Marx and get it straight from the horse’s mouth. However, I admit that these texts are really dense and not everyone has time to pick up a book and sit through it. Lots of people make content explaining socialist concepts, which would be less time-consuming if you’d like to take a look at those
