i think some people don’t realize that humor takes a level of intelligence. truly funny people are able to read others and joke in a way that makes EVERYONE laugh. it’s insane how many people think they’re funny when they’re just assholes

I mean yeah but it also takes a lot of self awareness too. The best humor is the type of humor that is laced with truth. If you’re making fun of someone or some subject and just saying random superlatives for the hell of it, it’s not gonna be funny. If you’re making fun of something using actual material relevant to the subject, it’s funny. That’s why I don’t think comedy should be silenced because not only is it humorous when done correctly but it can make you think too.

It’s always “dark humor enjoyrs” too. Like no, dark humor is funny because you KNOW the person doesn’t really feel that way. So when it’s not obvious you don’t feel that way, it’s not funny. It’s just weird hateful slop

I think there’s a fine line between dark humor/being an asshole/taboo subjects. I don’t think any subject should be off limits when it comes to comedy as long as it fits the bill I described above. I mean who am I to tell a comic that has been through a ton of trauma that they’re not allowed to joke about a certain subject because it may be distasteful even though they went through the subject personally and their way of coping is making light of it

I don’t even think it’s a fine line. It’s a pretty thick line, people just cross it in a failed attempt to be “edgy”
