Im studying to get a degree criminal psychology and im a bit of a pothead myself lol. A lot of the stigma stems from racism in the early 20th century. It became associated with immigrants and minorities so it kind of snowballed from there. The criminalization of it basically reinforced those ideas so it became a cycle. Stigma as a whole is a very interesting concept in terms of sociology and psychology, you should look into it.
It’s literally just because alcohol is pretty much a cultural universal, so outlawing it is impossible, whereas weed has an association with people the American government does not like (Black people and the anti-war left in the 1960s) and isn’t used by literally everyone so it was easier to ban for a long time
Idk why you’re so incensed about the idea of someone drinking or smoking. Becoming an adult means that you get to self-regulate. You get to decide what risks you wanna take and self-moderate. People make different decisions, and you don’t have the moral high ground just because you decide to abstain from everything.
I mean I hate the smell of cigarettes, do I complain about being “forced” to smell it? No lol I either walk away or deal with it, it’s not life ending. Plus edibles are great for pain relief and won’t get your panties in a twist over a smell. No reason alcohol should be more legal, more accessible, and more normalized. Alcohol is chemically addictive and just as damaging to the body as prolong weed smoking
There are edibles and vapes which cause contact highs. If we had dedicated smoking areas like for cigarettes then it wouldn’t affect you. Also, most legal states only allow for personal use in the home. Even then, you smell much worse walking through a city. I’m not the biggest fan of the smell but i’d prefer it over sewage and trash any day.
That’s true too here in Wisconsin the bars are so powerful they keep weed from being legalized and they also stop alcohol delivery from being legal on doordash and shit all because it increases the likelihood of people drinking at bars. Alcohol isn’t even legal to purchase in stores during prime bar/club hours
