There is never a convenient time or way to break up, if you wait until it feels right or easier then you’ll never break up. You just got to rip off the bandaid and do it. Sooner the better!

You could give yourself a time frame like “I have to break up with him by this day” and if you don’t then you HAVE to do it on the next day. I did that before where I gave myself two weeks to get my shit together and ended up waiting until the last day but it was helpful.
