Dumplings aren’t culinary expertise either, nor are calzones, you just were raised to associate different/exotic as better. In most places these foods would be considered lesser than not better (because xenophobia unfortunately, but there’s something to be said that American culture is very pro-differences and that’s not typical) and in the places they originate they are just as casual of food as if you made barbecue (a good bit of effort but not spectacularly formal unless it’s for an event)
