most people can stay fed without having to bus across town to the food bank early in the morning every week, wait around for an hour or two, and then strategically undereat just to stretch what they’ve got on hand. most people have energy left after they run errands, they take their health for granted
I’m in the same boat 💗🫠 in the last 5 years I got multiple surgeries & all while getting covid which ended up totally destroying my immune system. I never thought I would be in this position. I’m now trying to mobilize people together so that we can demand a change collectively but people don’t get it. Because for me, politics makes the difference of what I can afford that week. And it doesn’t have to be this way you know? Nor should it cuz this 💩 is brutal
fuck, i’m so sorry to hear that. i’m pretty deeply invested in chronically ill community & disability justice politics so i understand the gravity of that a lot better than most. which, speaking of, i appreciate you specifically naming longterm covid damage—like, it’s not surprising to meet someone who’s dealing with covid-related health issues, but it *is* unfortunately somewhat uncommon to meet people who consciously recognize it as that and voluntarily bring it up, you know what i mean?
i’ve had an autoimmune illness since early childhood and i depend on increasingly heavy immunosuppressive meds to treat it. my days have been numbered since the pandemic started, it’s been years of “well as long as the only deaths are people like you, the rest of us don’t have to worry”. and since i haven’t been able to avoid infection, long covid accelerated my illness and gave me POTS. my whole life fell apart
