HOT TAKE. A lot of people blame scrappers for the decline of pin trading and while yes, they stink - The biggest problem is hoarders who are claiming to “collect” and sell them for high prices. There’s literally no reason for this.

Scrappers at least are people trying with little accessibility or education usually

I was at DLP yesterday and waiting to trade for a refresher off the big board and wasn’t worried cause there were two of them. A guy comes up and trades for them both. And then trades for both of another pin. And then does like 8 more trades in the regular pin category but only puts up the stupid keys. I looked at his book later and they weren’t even in there for me to make an offer on.

I hate what has happened with scrappers, at first I didn’t know any difference or any better but that was 6 years ago on my first trip. Now that I know better I always equal value trade on the boards. I have some scrappers that I trade for other scrappers because tbh that’s almost what is entirely outthere and I enjoy the activity. But ALWAYS real for real on boards/cms. And when I trade for other guests it’s always fair, no scams or anything like that which I have fallen into before not knowing

BUT while that, and his other disrespectful behavior, pissed me off, at least I got the opportunity to look at other real pins of same value and keep on with my day. It’s not like he took the only real pin on the board. I’m going to have a ROUGH time going back to WDW with all the scrappers. It’ll just be so disappointing. (Ps, resellers will use scrappers to trade for good pins off the board to resell them. So it’s not just poor or uneducated ppl)

That’s good to know that DLP is chill. But idk I’m just suspicious of these pin entrepreneurs. The gopinpro girls specifically - I just have a bad feeling about them lol

Same vibe as those people who start animal rescues but don’t let anyone adopt the animals. Also Mormon vibes for some reason? Idk I don’t like them and I just can’t get on board with the pinfolio!

I honestly think the worst part is that cast members don’t even try to educate or warn people. Finding out after that you’ve been scammed (you bought real pins and traded them for scraps) isn’t fun.

Yeah :( I do love that the cast members who are big into trading themselves they sometimes drop a few hints, but since the “they can’t say no to a trade” is what hinders them from actually giving the information to guests. I could be completely wrong on that but that’s what I assume? I’ve definitely traded real for fake in the past, but now I’ve gotten more experienced I ask if I can look at the pin first before I trade for it. I don’t do blind trades unless unless it’s true diamond for diamond

Because diamonds are getting faked now too 😭

I’ve had CMs talk to me about fakes before, we were talking about the stick figure set and the price of a real pig from that set. They don’t even have to say no to the trade either, but just say something like “are you sure? [info about scrappers]” or even change their policy. They can absolutely say no at DLP and it’s much nicer over there

Oh yeah that stick figure set is EVERYWHERE except for the pig, I’ve seen a few people find it but it’s literally insane like the Heimlich HM pin. The ones I’ve ran into don’t say too much when it comes to pin info but I get it. It gets crazy all day long. And yes DLP I’m so excited to experience that and actually have the chance to actually get real pins!!
