This isn't a dorm decor post unfortunately, but I'm an incoming student who's a little lost and likes to prepare way in advance, what are some things you feel are necessary that most people don't think of when it comes to your dorm room?

Get the high quality extension cords especially if you are going to use a lot of items in them! The really long phone chargers like 10 ft? And also I seemed to always need a steamer! Also just a little tip wait to buy all your cleaning and bathroom supplies until after you get there same w trash cans and anything that may be in shared spaces that way yall can pick a theme you all like and split the cost of it!

these might already be on some people’s lists but things i found i needed once i moved in were a fan, string lights, as many extension cords and storage totes/carts as possible, wrinkle releaser spray for clothes, and a huge supply batteries !!

Surge protectors, NEVER extension cords. Almost everything I own is on a surge protector now after learning how big of a safety tool they are. You’re asking for a fire risk otherwise. Fan, and if you’re able, invest in a better once if you’re in a hot area, dorm without A/C, or hate heat/have temperature regulation issues. I use a smaller Vornado and it’s worth every single penny of the ~$70. If you’re in a small room, oscillation isn’t as important in my experience.

extension cords and the velcro command hooks. u can attach extension cords then to the side of your bed. a fan!!! stuff to make it feel like home and your space, trust it’s important

Brita pitchers are a must, dorm water is sometimes a little iffy. Not like undrinkable, but it’s nice to have a neutral taste. All your medications. Have a migraine condition but haven’t had one in months? Bring the migraine medication. First aid staples, OTC med staples, and prescriptions. Get a thermometer too. It will seem like a waste until you need it ASAP, and you’ll be thankful for it.

Also: weather related products! I didn’t bring rain boots only to learn the hard way that my campus is so flat that almost all walkways flood entirely after rain. An umbrella may not be enough! If you’re in a windy area, invest in a raincoat rather than an umbrella that will break in the wind!
