OK STUDY TIME First things first, don’t feel intimidated by not knowing how to dnd. Your DM will help you learn, or at worst you can look up videos. Now, STARTING dnd can happen in 3 (main) ways. Which I will say in comments since I ran out of spaceNUMBER 2 Drag a group of friends into playing. I recommend this if you want to be a DM. If you can convince 3-5 of your friends to play D&D together, you should be able to. This would require at least the DM to buy material though. After that prepare with one another until you all feel pretty good, then play the game
And NUMBER 3 Join an online group. Never done it myself, but it seems alright. Roll20 is I think the easiest website to look for and play games. But I’m sure Reddit, facebook, or other social media sites have applications and openings for online or nearby games. You can also go to certain game shops and events near you until you find one accepting of new players. The reason this isn’t my top choice is because some of these are paid campaigns
