Hi! I am new to D&D and I’m joining a campaign next week. Any advice for baby players?

1) Be engaged. Unless you’re looking up spells or something, try to stay off your phone. The only thing that makes someone “good” at D&D is just being invested in the story and respectful. 😊 2) Don’t be afraid to ask questions! We were all learning the game at some point and wanna help you. 3) Read your character sheet lolll. Part of the fun is knowing what cool stuff your character can do.

Do your best to learn the basic terminology- AC, DC, all the stats names and what they do. The basic words that get used a lot is the base to what needs to be understood It’ll usually be rolling a d20 and adding your stat to see if something works or doesn’t. The other dice are often for damage and specific moments.

All this advice is good, but also just have fun with it. You’re a new player so feel free to try out things you think are cool. What class do you think you wanna play?

Genuinely I know people who have been playing for over a year and still refuse to learn their character’s abilities. 💀 You don’t have to go in with knowing it like the back of your hand lol but it helps to have an idea what your abilities are. Makes combat fun.

There are lots of resources online for free that explain the rules. Roll20 is a great one! Do you know what edition you’re playing? You can feel free to DM me if you have specific questions too.

Look up the tomato stat graph for dnd it explains the stats in terms of tomatoes and works well. Also reach out to your DM and ask them what you should look into :)) you’ve got this stick with it even if it’s hard first session

Clerics are fun! My last character was a half-orc cleric. You’re a spell-caster main so you’ll be casting those and cantrips a lot. Something I did was ask my party how they like to be healed. Like as soon as they were really hurting or was it ok until they were knocked out. This allowed me to use some spell slots for attacking or boosting my party instead of just standing there waiting to heal. My background was a grave domain cleric so my best heals were unconscious creatures.

Not everything in DnD revolves around combat but we were playing a heavy combat campaign.

Like I said, just have fun. As mentioned above, pay attention, and if you’re confused it’s ok to ask for help. Think of it as your and your parties characters are in a book. The DM is the narrator. You (real you) is the reader. How would you enjoy your character’s story?

Cantrips are like mini-spells that don’t require spell slots. Examples- firebolt Are you using anything online to help you with keeping your character organized?

Yes, I use DnD and beyond. My DM has it on her profile so that I could have everything unlocked so she also has my character sheet
