Why do I have 300 NPCs, yet I can’t think of a character idea for a new campaign I joined?

NPCs tend to have an already established story while PCs create the story as you play. Often the best characters to play are underdeveloped and can be molded to fit the vibe of the party but it can be hard to not make everything up immediately

Honestly, choosing a random token off Dnd Beyond and coming up with a class and a backstory for them is my go to
