My dog would find baby bunny nests and I’d look in my backyard and see her throwing them in the air and then trying to catch them

Since then I’ve had to thoroughly check my yard during baby season

Yeah, my neighbors dog does the same thing. I feel horrible about moving them from the nest period but like. Theyre toast if they stay. I dont know how the mother rabbit thought a 150lb german shepherds yard was the perfect place to raise children

Praying the mom finds them again miraculously. The rehabber i called kept berating me for moving them but like. Guys its not my house and my neighbor is just gonna let her dog eat them (its near impossible to stop her anyways)

That’s insane, the rehabber berated you for moving the babies so they were less likely to be injured or killed… wouldn’t they want that? Like what 😭

To some degree i get it, the mothers recognize their nest by location, not scent, so theres a low chance of the mom recognizing it if its more than a few feet from where it was. But with the circumstances, i didnt really have a choice unfortunately. I would have loved to leave it be or keep it closer, but its a big yard and the dogs got the nose of a bloodhound so. Anywhere in the fence wouldve been game over

I convinced my neighbor to let me cover the nest when the dogs out and uncover it when the dogs inside so the mom has a chance to come back and feed them. Bad news is one bunny was missing and we couldnt find it around where we moved them :( hearts a little broken

Trying to believe that! But its a total catch 22. No matter what these babies had bad luck. I still feel responsible; i wish i would have thought of the cover idea sooner. Hopefully the rest of the babies make it
