With our current economy, im not shocked. Renewable energy takes a while to return a profit and a lot of americans cant fund them in the meantime. Im for renewable energy but for a country thats faced this bad an economic collapse its a far fetched idea

Theres a lot of resources that go into wind and solar farms, and they don’t generate a bunch of energy. I also don’t support clearing land for solar farms, because they’re ugly and take up a ton of green space. Solar panels on buildings makes the most logical sense, especially with solar roof tile technology that actually keeps houses looking nice with solar.

Also with the AI boom, tech companies care more about cheap electricity than clean energy at the moment

You have to remember that part of the reason for profitability is due to what we subsidize. We subsidize FF, so much so that if we didn’t, gas would NORMALLY be around 9 dollars a gallon. Imagine now a world where solar or wind are subsidized. Even competing with subsidized FF, solar is becoming more profitable at an exponential rate in the last 10 years. Additionally, Germany, despite having pretty dogshit solar potential, actually is among the world’s highest solar generators.

I get it, honestly. The issue is again, the american government is not interested in funding renewable like that. This means projects come out of our already strained pockets, usually take up a LOT of space (and are unpleasant to look at), and dont produce actual returns for years. Its a shitty situation, and i wish america cared, but as is, its no wonder the public has this opinion of it.

Renewable also isnt great environmentally unless its sustained for a long time. The amount of space and resources they take up isnt offset by the clean energy for years, potentially decades. Americas dug itself into a hole by relying near entirely on FF for this long. It would take large financial subsidies and ordinances to make it worthwhile for the public and for owners of plants. Do i hope it happens? Absolutely. Do i think itll happen anytime soon? No.

I think with renewable energy we talk so much about making a lot of it and not decreasing the total amount of energy we need. Part one I think is smarter designed cities that require way less fossil fuel transport. We need to more efficiently share resources better in general. Part 2 is nationalizing energy so it isn’t motivated by profit. Part 3 is renewable energy and trade-in programs

Yeah no almost none of what you just said has any basis in how energy actually works. Energy is motivated by profit, its an incredibly costly endeavor and unless you want that entirely on your taxes…. Sorry. And most of our energy is not being spent by regular people, its these ultra rich fucks. We need regulation and government incentives to renewable energy.
